Traditionally in France, the custom was for children to place a pair of shoes under the tree into which small treats or an orange would be slipped. The tradition of Christmas boots was mainly present in Anglo-Saxon countries like the United States or Great Britain, or Germanic ones like Germany. Although Christmas boots were already found in Alsace (related to the Germanic influence of the region), the tradition has mainly spread throughout France with the American influence that also brought the mythical Father Christmas.
